A Journey through History

Take a journey through Copenhagen's history, beginning where the city was established as a fishing and trading village.  At the statue of Bishop Absalon, the city founder, hear tales of how it all began. Continue through time, exploring the medieval city streets and squares, and taking in the expansive view of the entire city from an ancient observatory. After leaving the old town, we’ll continue our city walk to see how the city developed into the present while retaining aspects of its ancient past. Our tour ends with the option to purchase a traditional Danish open-faced sandwich. Duration: 3 hours. Price: DKK 750 first person. Tower entrance included; food is extra.

Cool Nørrebro

Meet at “Torvhallerne”, the covered market halls, before crossing Queen Louise’s Bridge and the Copenhagen lakes. On the other side lies the hip, multicultural Nørrebro district. As we walk through the neighborhood, you’ll discover its colorful past and also experience its new, trendy culture.  We’ll stop at two popular squares, each with its own distinct flavor. You’ll hear about famous Danish storytellers and philosophers and visit their resting places. If time and interest allow, we may visit Copenhagen’s Jewish cemetery before returning to the lakes. Duration: 3 hours. Price: DKK 750 first person.

Copenhagen walking tour of the Christianshavn neighbourhood

Christianshavn

Of all the Danish kings in the 1000-year dynasty, King Christian IV is one of the most colorful and memorable. Danes fondly say that he built all the buildings and lost all the land. We’ll meet near one of Christian IV’s most beautiful buildings, the Old Stock Exchange, and walk across the harbor bridge to the city section he founded- Christianshavn. We’ll explore this merchant’s city, laid out in a style reminiscent of a Dutch town, with canals and ramparts. You’ll hear about how a neighborhood built by traders and sailors evolved to include galleries, houseboats, and hip creative venues. Before crossing the harbor again to end where we began, we’ll stop for a refreshment at a unique cafe on the canal. Duration: 3 hours. Price: DKK 750 first person; refreshment is extra.

Don't take my word for it…

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour with Heidi in Copenhagen. She has an incredible amount of historical knowledge that she was happy to share with us. We even got into some beautiful, secret courtyards and enjoyed a coffee on the canal. Thank you for showing us parts of Copenhagen a little off the beaten track.

Heidi provided a unique inside/outside view of Copenhagen given that she is originally from the US but has lived in Copenhagen for a long time. The duration of the tour and the items covered suited our interests well. We appreciated her flexibility in adjusting to our needs. We had a chance to discuss history, architecture, culture, and food. She also provided recommendations for side trips!

Hands down the best tour guide we’ve ever had. Heidi’s deep knowledge of Copenhagen and its history combined with her strong communication skills was a joy to experience. We left the tour so excited to explore her recommendations and all that the city had to offer. I recommend her to anyone and everyone coming to visit Copenhagen.

I cannot say enough about my Copenhagen tour guide, Heidi. It was a most delightful, fun, entertaining, and enlightening time. Her knowledge of the area is really amazing. She knows details about every ”nook & cranny” from one end of Copenhagen to the other but presents them in a manner that is not boring or mind-numbing. Heidi enjoys showing places that are off the beaten path.

We recently visited Copenhagen and thoroughly enjoyed our walking tours on two, separate days with Heidi. We chose not to join the cookie-cutter, group tours that don’t provide insight into the Danish experience. Heidi created unique tours, adapting the walks to include extra gems. Heidi is an experienced traveler and brings this insight and warmth for guests.

It was like we were filming a travel show: Heidi’s conversation, along with the sights, gave us an insider’s look at the beautiful city she understands so well. Heidi’s way of seeing a city: ‘go up and go on the water’, took [our custom tour] to the Little Mermaid, the Queen’s Palace, canal boat tour, open-faced sandwich lunch on the harbor, the old neighborhood of Hojbro Square, the Round Tower, through the King’s Garden to a tour of Rosenborg Palace, and to the covered market for drinks to top off our storybook day. We can’t imagine a better guide.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with you. As it is primarily based on history and architecture, it was different than the usual “top ten sites “. Being history buffs, this was up our alley. You really know your stuff and we learned a lot!

During an enchanted afternoon, we took a very pleasant, always interesting, fully explained and definitely user-friendly stroll through “Wonderful Copenhagen” with Heidi. Our guide was careful not to overwhelm us with detail nor wear us out, and we even took time to stop in a delightful café. Our questions were happily answered and we got the feeling that day that all this was almost as much fun for our delightful guide as it was for us.

Before we visited Copenhagen, I got a referral for a private tour with Heidi. We walked all through the inner city, starting at the Little Mermaid on the harbour and finally crossing the Copenhagen Lakes to visit one of the neighborhoods. The highlights for us were the view from the Round Tower and the grave of Hans Christian Andersen. We were enchanted by the stories Heidi told and would recommend her for an intimate perspective and personalized tour.

On a recent visit to Copenhagen, Heidi was my guide for a wonderful day of exploring. Walking through neighborhoods, climbing the round tower for the spectacular views, strolling along the lakes, she told stories of the history and culture that make the city so special. Heidi has immersed herself in local lore, making her the perfect guide for small groups wanting to see the city from the perspective of a longtime resident.
